Cervical Screening Awareness Week is an annual event that takes place every June, aiming to highlight the importance of regular cervical screening for women’s health.
Cervical cancer is the most common form of cancer impacting women under 35, with two women in the UK per day dying from the disease. Regular cervical screening (smear test) can help to prevent up to 75% of instances of cervical cancer, saving 5000 lives per year. However, despite this, it is estimated that nearly 1 in 3 are not attending their cervical screening test.
This year, Cervical Screening Awareness Week will take place from 19 to 24 June 2025, and various fundraising events and social media campaigns will be dedicated to promoting awareness and sharing stories related to cervical cancer and cervical screening.
The upcoming Cervical Screening Awareness Week is an opportunity to unite in raising awareness about the importance of early screening and in the fight against cervical cancer.

Delayed Cervical Cancer Diagnosis
Cervical cancer is one of the most preventable forms of cancer when detected early enough, but unfortunately, missed or delays in diagnosis can happen, even when someone has been up to date with routine screening. Delayed diagnosis can occur due to various reasons, including misinterpretation of symptoms or test results, communication breakdowns between healthcare providers, or insufficient testing.
Delays in cervical cancer diagnosis can have a devastating impact on a patient’s prognosis, which can result in the need for more invasive cancer treatments or procedures. The later the cancer is detected, the higher the chance of it having spread to other parts of the body where it becomes harder to treat. In cases where this is due to medical negligence, you may be entitled to compensation.
